Will my child get an equal education to that of students progressing through traditional schooling?

•If we did not believe in our system, it would not be around. We are certain in our ability to not only the satisfy curricular needs of our students, but to also shape them into the best members of society they can be. Students leaving our school will have developed a higher level of critical thinking, will be more confident in their hands-on abilities, will have problem solving skills for real world applications and much more. Your child will be prepared for their next level of education but also will be prepared to take on the real world!

Are there extra curricular options for students?

•At the Dewey School of Dewing we offer a variety of extra curricular options that work to enhance an already amazing experience. We offer clubs such as photography club, robot club and jewelry club. We also offer a variety of premier sports teams, for example, our soccer and basketball programs. Additionally, One of our proudest accomplishments at our school is our incredible elective options that students are able to build into their timetables. These electives all follow our “learning-by-doing” philosophy and are very popular with past students. Examples of these electives are environmental studies/sustainability, health and wellness, and technology and design.

What does an average day at school look like?

• Each student will have a timetable consisting of 4 blocks (A, B, C, D). On Monday, Tuesday and Friday the schedule is A, B, C, D. On Tuesday and Thursday the schedule is B, A, D, C. Each block is 70 minutes long with a 10 minute transition time between classes. That being said, we do a LOT of cross curricular work and encourage students to work collaboratively on inquiry and problem-based projects. Students will arrive at school for 9:00AM and leave at 3:10PM. Our lunch break is 50 minutes and starts at 11:30AM and runs until 12:20PM. Our final bell goes at 3:10!

What age does my child have to be to attend?

•As of right now, the Dewey School of Doing is limited to grades 6, 7, and 8. Your child has to be in those grades to attend. However, we are working on opening a second campus that will be for elementary aged students! The sooner we can get students into our curriculum, the more effective it will be!
